Glossary

The handful of terms that show up throughout these docs.

Addendum

A tracked change to a contract's terms mid-term - a rate change, a new tier, an extension - that doesn't require rewriting the whole contract.

Contract

The record of a deal's terms: what's billed, at what rate, on what cadence. Every invoice traces back to one.

Economic event

The internal record created when usage is rated against a contract term - the link between a usage event and the line it produces on an invoice.

Rating

Matching a usage event to the contract term it belongs to and calculating what it costs.

SKU

A billable item or service definition a contract's terms reference - the thing being priced, independent of any one deal's rate for it.

Usage event

A single metered action your product reports - an API call, a seat-day, a unit consumed - the raw input to rating.

Usage term

The part of a contract that defines how one kind of usage is priced - a rate, a tier schedule, a minimum.
